The weekend of Saturday, 7 and Sunday, 8 December was all about open publishing. How can we collaboratively, intuitively and instantly put together a publication? In a series of workshops, we learnedd how to collectively create a font, activist posters, zines and collages. From all of the material produced, a collectively created publication of Open Doen will be made.
On Saturday, 7 December, Xiaoyuan Gao took us through the process of making your own typeface. Everyone made a letter by hand, we produced a collective, digital font that was immediately usable. Download the Open Boek typeface here.
In Zeloot's (Eline van Dam) workshop, we learned how to quickly and easily create protest posters and how to self-publish them.
On Sunday, Dec. 8, HumDrumPress shared its own way of publishing in which commons play an important role. All HumDrumPress publications are available online and can be reused. Their manifesto is also shareable and people can even add things to it. Matt Plezier gave a presentation on his activist zines and his way of sharing making.
Cut and Rescue, a collective from Jakarta, Indonesia, shared their method of “hunting and foraging” publication materials. Together we will collect all the results of the weekend and intuitively process them into a publication.
